Try Our Software Identification ProcessSoftware ID Technologies identifies software applications in two distinct ways: Traditional File Analysis uses executable program (EXE) files. They are identified from their Filename, File Size, and Folder as well as from embedded information that programmers can put inside of the files. File Analysis gives the most complete inventory of software on a computer but can be very expensive and time consuming because most files do not contain enough embedded information for identification without manual research. Add or Remove Program Analysis uses windows registry information which includes not only the Display name that is seen in the Control Panel's 'Add or Remove Programs' but includes Publisher and Version information that is also in the registry. Not all Licensable programs are represented in 'Add or Remove Programs' but we have found that, on average, clients can identify 86% of their Licensable applications for 10% of the cost of a Traditional File Analysis.
